This Ikon 2pc set combines these two sought after knives.The Wusthof Ikon is culmination of all the best features of each of the Wusthof knife lines. The combined riveted handle design is combined with a contoured shape to add comfort and control. The handles are made of African Grenadill wood. African Grenadill wood is the worlds densest wood and expands and contract less than most traditional woods. These handles are hand crafted and fitted to each knife. The Ikon adds a rear bolster that acts as a counter balance when using the knife. This second bolster adds significant blade control. Ikon has a unique forward bolster as well. The forward partial bolster is designed so you can sharpen the complete length of the blade. This bolster is also curved inwards to allow your fingers greater control while holding the knife by the blade. Wusthof uses a special blend of German steel through out the whole length of the knife. The ingredients of this steel are proudly etched on each blade. Wusthof not only uses the best materials to make a fine knife, but it is also crucial that each blade is precisely tempered. This tempering allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time, yet still be able to be maintained in your home kitchen with out the need to be sent away for maintenance. Our unique compound angle is not seen in many knives. This angle tapers from the spine of the knife to the edge to allow for a sturdy, yet extremely sharp edge while it also tapers from the bolster to the tip to give the knife strength as well as flexibility. Wusthof Blackwood knives are very attractive, well balanced, and hold an edge about as well as any of Shun knives (Kaji and Classic) that I have. Very hard to beat considering the reasonable price and beauty of this line of cutlery.

This set includes a 6 inch chefs knife which I happen to use every day. The wood handles are beautiful and the knife is perfectly balanced. If you are looking for a European style knife you won't be disappointed.

UPDATE: The review below was after receiving different items than what was pictured. Now, Amazon has the picture that matches the items--and these items are really nice knives. A very well balanced chef's knife and a small paring knife. I'm a fan of the blackwood handles, so I pay a premium for those. The regular Ikon "black" are also nice and balanced knives. Of course, the blades are great. Hand-wash all good knives. If you can buy these knives on sale or at a reduced price through the marketplace...grab em.OLD POST: I'm a big fan of the Wusthof Ikon Blackwood knives. They are great; however, this set is a risky purchase. I've ordered this set expecting the 7-inch santoku and the 3-inch straight paring knives (as clearly pictured!). Instead, I received (twice!-after returning the first erroneous shipment, I got another) one 6-inch chef knife and one 3-inch paring knife.Amazon is checking into the accuracy of the picture and the item. Beware if you purchase here before May 1st as they may not have corrected the error.MAY 6 2011 update: No change to the online listing for this set. It is still a risky purchase as the picture shows one set, the description is ambiguous, and my experience (twice) is that this set is different from that shown.Come on Amazon, get with the clarification--it's been three weeks since I contacted you (on the phone) with concerns about the listing being different from the items that ship.
