Kasumi means mist in Japanese. The border of the blade on a Kasumi has beautiful waves that look like a mist. It is made of two materials; blue or white steel and soft iron. The waves are the border of hard steel and soft iron. When hard steel is covered with soft iron, it becomes less fragile. The Kasumi is easier to maintain than the Honyaki. Natural sharpening stone is recommended for sharpening. Recommended for beginner to professional chefs.

Like many people shopping for traditional Japanese knives, you have probably noticed that most that are available in the US are sold through exclusive dealers and galleries. Having purchased a few other knives through such sources, I was skeptical about this storefront but I am happy to say that I was not disappointed.The Usuba that I received is exactly as pictured. The heel has been beveled and the spine is rounded. This is much more comfortable than knives that are left with square edges. There is also a slight hollow grind on the un-beveled side of the blade which makes sharpening easier. The handle has an a-symetrical shape to it that is characteristics of single beveled knives, and I find it to be quite comfortable.Yoshihiro's customer service is also excellent. There was an issue with my order, but a representative of the company contacted me by phone and resolved the problem with me quickly, and much to my satisfaction.A knife with these features, as well as a wooden saya in this price range is pretty remarkable, and I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a traditional Japanese kitchen knife.

i ordered the knife through amazon right on the first day when i was browsing for an extra knife for my sidejob purpose, which is mainly cutting vegies. i thought for the price its worth to try thoo, and im glad i did! i ordered the 195cm but the very next day they call me telling me that that size was out of stock, but they would send me the 210cm one if i could handle such a longer and slightly heavier knive, which cost 40 bucks more than the one i originally oredered! but they wouldnt not charge me the extra cost for it! what a beautiful deal and great customer service they were! i couldnt be happier! thanks for this quite amazing usuba! i will definetelly buy yoshihiro brand again pretty soon, since i still need another yanagi and another deba too!
